Arctic: Our Frozen Planet – 3D

Take An Epic 3D Adventure

At the very top of the globe lies a spectacular, frozen realm. But don’t be fooled by appearances…this place is not frozen in time. It’s a dynamic ecosystem and for thousands of years its indigenous people and wildlife have found ways to survive and live in harmony with these extremes.

ARCTIC: Our Frozen Planet is a breathtaking expedition across the Earth’s other pole, narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange). Viewers will embark on a year-long adventure across the seasons and three continents and be immersed in the astounding world of narwhals, belugas, and polar bears as they navigate ice floes. You’ll hear the thunderous sound of stampeding caribou and muskox trying to escape hungry wolves and you’ll be amazed by hooded seals that blow up red balloons and ice-covered bumblebees that emerge glorious from their winter lairs.

As the planet’s climate is experiencing rapid changes, so is the Arctic. But the changes in the Arctic are happening faster and more dramatically than anywhere else. Can it keep pace? Join scientist Eric Regehr (Principal Research Specialist at the University of Washington) and polar bear specialist Alun Hubbard (Fiel-Glaciologist) in their journey across the arctic.

JDC – Birdies for Charity

Giving Donations A Boost

Every year, the John Deere Classic sponsors Birdies for Charity, a giving program that allows donors to either make a pledge of at least a penny per birdie scored at the golf tournament or a one-time flat donation.

The Classic will pass along 100% of your contribution to the Putnam and will add a bonus check of between 5% and 10%, making the impact of your gift even greater.

You can request a pledge form from the Putnam beginning in April of each year. Forms must typically be submitted by mid to late June and must include our correct birdie number to designate funds to the Putnam.

Community Access Fund

Expanding Access For All

The Community Access Fund ensures that ALL children have access to the Putnam—regardless of their financial status. A donation allows us to reach underserved audiences that would not generally be able to enjoy a visit to the museum, expanding access to the museum. Thanks to your investment, we can foster inquisitiveness, promote creativity, and advance understanding. Here are a few illustrations of what we can do with this funding:

    • Welcome entire classrooms of kids from historically under-resourced schools to our week-long IMMERSE program to learn about their community, their world, and their future.

    • Host camps that encourage kids to experience STEM and explore our history and culture.

    • Subsidize the cost of admission through the Museums For All program, widening our reach to underserved populations.

Education Camp Assistant

Help Lead Fun & Learning

Our popular camp programs are a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy spending time with small groups of kids. Camp themes range from Harry Potter and Zombie Survival to butterflies, the human body, and engineering. Volunteers—working alongside Putnam educators—help make the camp experience special for our young campers by providing assistance with themed activities, assisting staff with preparation of materials, managing the check-in process, and supervising lunch and break-time activities.

Ideal camp volunteers enjoy working with children, variety and can handle multiple environments (outdoors, museum exhibit halls, classrooms, etc.). Camps run during school breaks. Commitment for the duration of the camp is preferred, but not required. Shifts are weekdays from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and/or 1– 4 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to assist with before care (8–9 a.m., M–F) and after care (4–5 p.m., M–F) for campers who join us for an extended day.
