Science comes to life in Science in Action, the Putnam Museum’s interactive hands-on science center where curiosity fuels discovery. Designed for explorers of all ages, this dynamic space invites guests to experiment, investigate, build, and play while uncovering the scientific principles that shape the world around us. Every exhibit encourages learning through experience, transforming complex concepts into memorable moments of discovery.
Step into a world of motion, magnetism, energy, and engineering. Launch paper rockets to test the forces of flight, challenge friends at the tug-of-war exhibit to explore balance and physics, or send colorful scarves flying in the popular scarf fountain. Build and race custom vehicles on the LEGO racetrack, design unique creations at the magnetic sculpture table, and discover how electricity flows through the interactive circuit wall. Around every corner, hands-on activities reveal the science behind everyday phenomena in fun and surprising ways.
Whether visitors are experimenting with gears, sending balls through magnetic tube wall, testing cause and effect, or simply following their curiosity, Science in Action inspires a deeper understanding of the basic principles of science. Filled with opportunities to touch, tinker, and try something new, this exciting gallery encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity while reminding us that science is not just something we study, it’s something we experience every day.
