Mississippi River Lock & Dam No. 15 Collection 2006-21
Inclusive dates: 1931-1933
Scope Notes
This collection is comprised primarily of images taken by the U.S. Engineers. The pictures catalog the entire construction of the No. 15 Lock & Dam on the Mississippi River, which was constructed under and around the Fourth Government Bridge between Rock Island and Davenport. Most pictures are of the construction of the lock, dam, and cofferdams during 1931-1933 but some are of the Fourth Government Bridge and surrounding area before and after the completion of Lock & Dam No. 15.
All pictures seem to be the originals from the 1930’s and some have duplicates (9, 15, 25, 26, 65, 67, 68, 69, 73, 76, 127, 135, 165, 166, 176, 178, 184, 191, 192). The majority of the pictures were cataloged by the U.S. Engineers in the 1930’s but pictures 2006.21.189–194 did not have dates or descriptions on them.
Images 2006.21.1-188 have been arranged chronologically according to the identification numbers written on them by the U.S. Engineers. The remainder were unnumbered.

Lone Star Collection LIII
Dates: 1962
Scope Notes
This collection consists of 84 copy color slides made by the donor in 1986. The original slides were taken by and are in the possession of donor Tony Kelly. They were taken in 1962 during a trip on the boat Lone Star, which is now part of the Buffalo Bill Museum’s collection in LeClaire.
The Lone Star was the last boat of its type – coal-fired paddle wheeler – that operated on the Mississippi and was also one of the longest in operation (100 years). Builders Sand and Gravel was the last owner. Standard route of the boat was pushing barges of sand from Hampton, IL to Davenport. People in slides include Bill Horlass, engineer. Woman is captain’s wife. Captain’s name was Johnson.
The images document the boat operations including loading barges with sand and going through a lock (probably #14), shows various pieces of equipment, interiors views, scenes of the boat on the river and scenes of the river from the boat.
DONOR RETAINS COPYRIGHT. MUSEUM HAS PERMISSION TO USE FOR EXHIBIT, RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.
