Reconciling Science and Religion: An Environmental Perspective

Every third Thursday, we’ll be serving up fascinating talks on a variety of topics, all while you enjoy a cold brew or your favorite beverage.

Join us on April 16th, for an engaging History on Tap conversation that explores a thought‑provoking topic: the perceived conflict between science and religion. In this presentation, you will look at how these tensions developed over time, examine why they often seem at odds, and explore ways the two can be meaningfully harmonized—especially through the lens of today’s urgent environmental challenges.

Led by Mark W. Schwiebert, this talk draws on both historical context and contemporary insight to consider how scientific understanding and religious values can work together to inspire environmental responsibility and reform.

Schwiebert brings a lifetime of civic leadership and community engagement to the discussion, having served on the Rock Island City Council from 1981–1989 and as Mayor of Rock Island for two decades (1989–2009). His perspective bridges public service, history, and thoughtful dialogue—making this an evening of conversation you won’t want to miss.
