Learn about Clinton’s History with High Fructose Corn Syrup

Every third Thursday, we’ll be serving up fascinating talks on a variety of topics, all while you enjoy a cold brew or your favorite beverage.

On Thursday, April 17th, our featured speaker will be Brian Leech, the Associate Professor of History and Chair at Augustana College. He will be presenting, “Sweet Solution, Sticky Situation: A Labor Strike and the Local Origins of High Fructose Corn Syrup.” This lecture will discuss how Clinton, Iowa played a major role in building the modern food system and how high fructose corn syrup was first manufactured on an industrial scale there.  Whether you’re interested in local monopolies, labor strikes and unions, or if you’re simply curious about accusations of communism, this is a session you do not want to miss!
