As a member of the Visitor Services team, the Visitor Services Specialist-Lead Concessions plays a vital role in
enhancing earned revenue via concessions and retail sales while providing the ultimate Putnam experience.

The Visitor Services Specialist-Lead Concessions will successfully meet and exceed performance goals which align with organizational priorities and strategies.

The Visitor Services Specialist – Lead Concessions position is a full-time, non-exempt position within the Putnam Museum and Science Center. The starting hourly rate is $12.50 along with a competitive benefits package. Interested applicants should email a cover letter and resume to

Essential Job Functions

  • Promote the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the Putnam Museum and Science Center.
  • Assist VSM in managing the Snack Stop, including purchasing, pricing, display, and ordering supplies and equipment, and associated inventory procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain Food Service Manager Certification as required by law.
  •  Develop and maintain a working knowledge about Putnam policies, programs, films, exhibits and the science center to answer questions from the public and encourage visitors to enjoy the full range of experiences
  • Distribute cash drawers and keys as required and assume responsibilities for the proper closing of all cash stations, as well as oversee other cash handling and register policies, when needed.
  • Open/Close the facility for business including lights, doors, computers, and phone system.
  • Work closely with a variety of departments to provide products/services for varied groups/events.
  • Work closely with a variety of vendors, and research potential new vendors that might benefit Putnam.
  •  Assist VSS-Lead Theater with daily film showings as needed and maintain a working knowledge of projection.
  • Assist VSS-Lead Theater in overseeing the cleanliness, safety, and security of the theater annex.

Self-motivated and goal oriented. Ability to interact with visitors, employees, community partners, donors, and volunteers in a tactful and diplomatic manner. Skilled at basic mathematical computations, verbal communication, operation of cash registers and computer systems. Ability to coordinate the work of skilled and semi-skilled employees and volunteers. Ability to apply creative problem solving. Ability to create, follow and maintain timelines. Ability to work under pressure and to find humor in everyday situations. Knowledge of proper telephone procedures.

Training and Experience

Minimum 2 years work-related experience. Retail experience is highly preferred.
