The Putnam Museum receives no operating revenues from city and county taxes. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Putnam Museum depends on membership revenues as an important source of funding to sustain its educational programming and general operating costs.

As a Putnam Member, you will receive the following benefits:

Standard Membership Categories and Rates:
$35:  Students (with a valid student ID)/Educators/Seniors (Good for one person 60+ years of age). $60 for two years.

$45:  Individual (or $80 for two years)

$35:  Senior Individual (adults 60 years and older); Educators; Students with valid ID (or $60 for two years). Includes Standard Benefits, PLUS one free voucher good for one IMAX showing or World Adventure Series per year. 

$65:  Duo Membership (2 individuals at the same address) (or $115 for two years). Includes Standard Benefits, PLUS two free vouchers good for IMAX or World Adventure Series per year.

$75:  Family/Grand (or $130 for two years). Good for two adults and any children living at the home address and dependent children living away from home, or free admission and program discounts for any minor grandchildren accompanying the grandparent(s). Standard Benefits, PLUS:

 $125:  IMAX Club (or $225 for two years). Good for two adults and any children living at the home address and dependent children living away from home. Standard Benefits, PLUS:

$190:  Triple Membership: Membership in the Putnam Museum and IMAX Theatre, Family Museum, and Niabi Zoo! For two adults and all children under age 18 in the same household. Includes "Family" membership benefits at the Putnam plus reciprocal admission to more than 250 science and technology centers and over 50 zoos. Makes a great gift!

VOLUNTEER!

Volunteers are needed in the areas of Collections, Education, Marketing, and Special Events!

Education Department

Scheduling School Group Visits
Volunteer requested for 3-hour shift at least 1 day per week.  Return calls to teachers who wish to schedule field trip visits.  Establish schedule to suit both teacher and Museum time frames.  Enter finalized schedule on computerized scheduling system.  Send confirmation of visit.  Skills required: ability to communicate clearly and effectively via telephone, ability to coordinate schedules, computer experience, understanding of school culture helpful.  Education Department staff will provide training and support.

Discovery Room Monitor
Volunteer requested for 2 hour shift (between hours of 10 am-1 pm) in one of the Museum’s most popular and “loved” areas.  Routine shifts of once per week or once every other week preferred.  Arrange and tidy activity areas, assess condition of objects and submit for repair or deep cleaning if needed.  Record visitor comments and make written recommendations for improvements.  May involve occasional vacuuming or dusting as condition of area requires.

Animal Care
Volunteer requested for 2-3 hour shift to assist Naturalist in routine care of live animals. Routine shifts of once per week or once every other week preferred.  Animals include reptiles and amphibians in Sci-Lab, fish in large aquarium and gerbil on display.  Change water, provide exercise and assist with feeding schedule.  May grow into programming opportunity if desired.

Plant Care
Volunteer requested to care for Museum’s plant life.  Person with experience may create their own schedule to tend to unique plant collection found throughout the building.  Reports to Naturalist.

FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE / INTERNSHIP / VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Activity Planning and Preparation for Putnam Museum Education Department

2-3 hr shift at least one day per week, some evenings or weekends expected. Schedule may be customized to fit class schedule.  Assist Education Department staff in planning activities for after school programs, Scout workshops, and family events.  Perform research and suggest activities related to science and history themes.  Work with Educator to select appropriate activities for age group and time frame.  Prepare activity supplies and assist Educator in implementing programs.
