Join us for a new season of Putnam Explorers and Putnam Explorers Jr.!

Fall Season is September through December. Classes meet the first weekend of the month, Putnam Explorers Jr (Pre-K - 1 Grade) on Saturdays from 9:00 - 11:00 AM and Putnam Explorers (Grades 2 - 5) on Saturdays from 9:00 - 11:00 AM.

Pre-registration is required for all programs as there are a limited number of reservations available. Scholarship resources may also be available. Questions? Contact Brittany Glass, Educational Services Coordinator at 563.336.7290 or email bglass@putnam.org.

For individual classes, please fill out an Explorers Form or Explorers Jr Form and return along with payment at our Ticketing counter. To register via phone, please call (563)324-1933.

Fantastic Fossils
Saturday, September 9 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
Ever wonder how paleontologists learn about dinosaurs? Come and discover the joy of digging, explore the Putnam’s fossil collection, and make your own fossils!

Journey to Space
Saturday, October 7 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
Have you ever looked up in the night sky and wondered, “What is beyond the stars? Where is the Big Dipper? Is our Solar System really part of the Milky Way?” We will take a journey into space that will answer all these questions and more! Are you ready to travel and explore things beyond your imagination?

The Kitchen, Not just for Cooking!
Saturday, November 4 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
The kitchen can be an exciting place…not only for the food BUT the chemical reactions that happen when items from your pantry are mixed together! Join us for an explosive good time!

Rockin’ Robotics
Saturday, December 2 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
Robots aren’t just cool –they ROCK! In this workshop Explorers will meet the Putnam’s programmable robots, Dot and Dash, and learn about robots small and large!

The Wild Ocean
Saturday, January 6 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
What would life be like as a dolphin, shark or coral reef? Let’s explore the relationship between humans and the oceans to discover the impact our everyday life has on the Earth’s oceans!

Dream Big: Design Challenges
Saturday, February 3 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
Using the engineering design process, your creativity, your imagination and your unique ideas you can come up with amazing solutions to help others. Explorers will participate in design challenges that will spark their interest to engineer our world!

Under Construction: Bridges
Saturday, March 3 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
Imagine having enough K’Nex building toys to create a massive stay cable bridge! Learn about architecture and engineering through directed building exercises that will yield a K’Nex bridge, up to 40’ long and 12’ high! Creativity, organization, cooperation, problem solving, and fun are all highlighted. A Duplo blocks area will also be available for young children. Wilderness Awareness
Saturday, April 7 • 9:00 to 11:00 am
Would you be able to identify edible or dangerous plants in the woods? During Explorers you will learn about different plants and the many types of animals that are sharing the woodlands with you. Let’s discover what nature has to offer us!
